Shaun's Blog
MercuryWeb, MercuryWeb, MercuryWeb. No matter how you say it it’s still terrible.

After being with this horrid shitbag of a “company” my online store (GeekStore) has finally come to a crashing halt, right in the middle of the Christmas rush with loads of orders. Greeeaaatt…

Last month I can remember having downtime 4 times, totaling to about 10 hours. I thought that was bad. Today I got an email, it went something like this…

Dear Customers,

Due to unexpected issues with our upstream provider, all services are likely
to go down tomorrow. Servers will start going offline tonight as we prepare
for this.
We will be moving core hardware to a datacenter as soon as possible, at
which time all services will be restored.

Please note that services, when restored will be on a different IP range.
Your new IPs will be provided to you as soon as we have them.

Please accept our sincere appologies, we know that this is inconvenient and
we will be providing service credits.

Kind Regards,
Daniel Faulknor

That’s right. Not even 12 hours notice and I get sent an email (when I was asleep) that my website was going on a vacation, never to come back.

I emailed back, asking what the heck was going on (granted, not in those words, but I did make an impact.) Long story short, I was told that I wouldn’t be getting my files etc.

So now I have a few issues on my plate. Mainly being that I have loads of products to send out and no idea who to send them to. Why? Because I don’t know who ordered what, my printer broke 2 days ago (typical, great timing) so I didn’t print any offline invoices, I needed to be able to access the admin center, and I can’t. Secondly being that the reputation of what was a very successful business venture has gone down the crap factory. Obviously there’s more to this and there must be a story that lies deeper as to why my site is gone, but I guess the true inners of the situation will come out in time.

Daniel, you’re a dick. =]

Update: I got my backup and I have got my site back up.

One whole year…

Well, amazing as it is, Kirstie has managed to put up with me for a whole year.

As of the 4th of December we had out first anniversary. Aww…

RIP Andy - you will never be forgotten.

Edumacation

With exams only 19 days away (oh my god, I just check that) I thought i’d take a recap on what’s happening and what’s going to happen with my education.

Current NCEA credits: 73. Needed to pass: 80.
I need 4 more Maths credits and 6 English and all done and dusted.

Next year (2010): Going back to school for NCEA Level 3 and studying English, Maths, Digital Technologies, Theology and something else that I can’t remember (will add when I do).

2011: Moving up to Christchurch with Kirstie (fingers crossed i’ll still be with her) and going somewhere (most likely Avonmore) to study Computer Network Engineering.

So, by the end of 2012 I should have:
NCEA level 1, NCEA level 2, NCEA level 3, Diploma in Network Engineering level 4, Diploma in Network Engineering level 5, St John Grand Prior, Scouting Chief Scout.

For. The. Win.

Look, mum! No tonsils!
Oh god, the pain of having tonsils out. At least i’ll never have to do it again!
